UV Curing Bottom Rim Coatings
UV curing the bottom rim of beverage cans protects them during manufacturing by applying a durable coating to the bottom rim of aluminum and steel cans. This coating, designed for longevity, protects the can during and after manufacturing.
Bottom Rim UV Curing Advantages
Can Mobility
This UV coating shields the can, protecting it from wear and scratches. It’s especially effective when beverage cans move quickly through the product line and come into contact with various surfaces and other cans. The UV coating also reduces the friction of the bottom rim as it slides through many of the conveyance methods, which significantly improves the mobility of the cans during the can manufacturing and decorating processes as well as the beverage filling processes. This has resulted in the reduction of problematic issues, such as cans tipping over and can jams in the can production or filling lines. In addition, the UV protective coating significantly reduces the aluminum dust that would otherwise be generated by the bare aluminum rims sliding along the conveyors. Reducing or eliminating the generation of this aluminum dust reduces preventive maintenance and the failure rate of the can production equipment.
Can Corrosion
For tinned steel cans, a UV-curable coating is applied to protect them from corrosion throughout the can’s lifetime.
