100 Women Joining Hands to Create a Better Community

March 9, 2020 – The Power of 100

The Power of 100 – Chesapeake Women Who Care is a charitable organization founded by Miltec’s Connie Cooke Blandford and her close friend Kelley DuBois. Beth Mosner, Miltec’s Sales & Marketing Administrator is also a member of the group which just entered its second year. After only two meetings, they have raised and donated over $15,000, and the group of women committed to making a difference in the community, continues to grow!

The third meeting of the Power of 100 was held on March 9, 2020 at the Chesapeake Bay Environmental Center (CBEC), which was the recipient of the donations raised at the second meeting in October 2019.  Membership this year has grown to 115 local women, of whom approximately 70 members were in attendance Monday evening, to nominate and vote on their favorite non-profit organization supporting the Eastern Shore.

The randomly selected nominees at this gathering included the Jacob Sloan Foundation, The Queen Anne’s County Mental Health Committee (QACMHC) and Compass Regional Hospice.  All three nominees made a brief, informal presentation about their organization to the group. The group members in attendance then voted (by ballot) for one of the three charities. Compass Regional Hospice was nominated, and they will receive $11,500 in donations to support the services they provide the community. The mission of Compass Regional Hospice is to “offer individuals, families and our communities in Queen Anne’s, Kent and Caroline counties “Care on your terms” through comprehensive, professional and compassionate care and grief support”.

As the group continues to grow, the impact they make to the local community will be substantial.
