Qualifications:
Minimum qualifications include a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering or Civil Engineering, and Computer Aided Design (CAD) drawing experience, familiarity with typical shop equipment and manufacturing processes is required.
Essential Duties:
Perform engineering analysis, research, and utilize applicable knowledge and skills toward the development of product design
,
create CAD drawings of mechanical, civil, or structural components from problem descriptions, simple sketches, and verbal descriptions of conceptual designs, develop as-built drawings of prototype parts, conversion into CAD format, select appropriate materials and develop bills of material as needed, develop testing and evaluation programs that result in proper solutions to problems, develop formal reports, describing the results of testing and evaluation programs and make specific and practical recommendations.

Quartz Fabricator

Job Summary:
Responsible for the forming and fabricating of quartz glass material into specified shapes as dictated by written instruction and/or patterns. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Shaping, bending, resizing and joining sections of quartz glass tubes and rods; working with an optical comparator, glove box, vacuum equipment, and lab equipment; working with liquid nitrogen, glass cutter, diamond saw, oxygen torch, auto lathe, and manual lathe. Visualization, manual dexterity, and control precision are essential attributes for personnel performing this function.
Qualifications:
2-Year degree or equivalent work-related experience, 4-5 years experience in quartz glass forming or related media, manual dexterity and attention to detail.
Essential Duties:
Prepare quartz tube for forming on the auto lathe. Shape, resize, bend and join sections of quartz glass tubes and rods to the desired specifications. Cut lengths of tubing to specified sizes using a glass cutter or diamond saw. Vacuum furnace operation. Filling of blanks within a glove box, working with oxygen torch, working with liquid nitrogen. General knowledge to work with quartz glass and various chemicals utilized in quartz product production. Knowledge in operating an optical comparator, glove box, vacuum equipment and lab equipment associated with quartz glass product production. Forming of product from quartz glass tubes and rods. Understanding written instructions. Inspection of product for defects and accuracy. Operation and control of fabrication. Understanding of Statistical Process Control (SPC) processes. Monitoring of processes, material, and surroundings.
